Popularly known as Debu, Devabrata Chaudhuri is one of India's outstanding musicians of the day.He received his early training from the late Panchu Gopal Dutta and later from the seniormost traditional exponent of the sitar, Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan of Senia Gharana, a traditional school of Indian music. Special features of this senior Gharana is that it represents an uninterrupted lineage of sitar players for eight generations, and this is the only Gharana in Indian music which is still using 17 frets in the sitar.
Pandit Chaudhari's recitals are marked by a rare sense of aesthetics, grace and an unexcelled sweetness. He has been conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian honours bestowed by the President of India and the most coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his invaluable contribution in the field of Indian Classical music.
